Limited services offered at Sleeping Bear Dunes

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will again be accessible to visitors, despite the government shutdown.

Superintendent Scott Tucker announced Saturday that visitor services, including plowing of trailhead parking lots and cleaning of restrooms, will resume using revenue generated by recreation fees.

SB-Bingham receives grant

The Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire & Rescue Department will receive $28,000 in “2-percent” casino revenue sharing funds from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to pay for some new equipment.

Members of the Fire & Rescue Authority board learned about the hoped-for influx of cash at their regular monthly meeting last week.

Two arrested after fight

Two men were arrested Friday night after an incident at an Elmwood Township home.

Upon arrival, deputies found an injured man sitting in the driveway of the home.

An investigation showed that two men living in the home were involved in an argument. The argument escalated to where one man choked the other for a period of time.
