G-L hires food service consultant
Glen Lake Community Schools has made a major move recently to bolster their food service program.
The program, having recently encountered the loss of its food service director, has been in need of someone to fill the position. On Friday, Superintendent Sander Scott announced the hiring of Dave Ruszel as a consultant to the position of food service director.

Chili cook-off to help family
A chili cookoff fundraiser benefiting the Royston family will be held next Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Leland Public School.
The event, to be held before the boys home basketball game vs. Suttons Bay, will feature a variety of chilis.
Participants will sample a variety to determine their favorite.

Hazelton, Okerlund stand atop county leading scorers
The two leading scorers from last year are at it again.
Reece Hazelton and Xander Okerlund have come out of the gates strong in the first seven games of the 2018-19 season, leading the county in scoring with 19.6 and 19.3 points per game respectively. Joey Fosmore has also found his way into the top 10 scorers in the county.
Glen Lake splits games at Grand Haven Tournament
Glen Lake (6-1, 3-0 NWC) suffered its first loss Friday.
A cold first half doomed the Lakers, as Holland Christian (5-0) held on late for a 48-44 victory over Glen Lake.

First wine event of ‘19
The Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail will host Sips and Soups, Saturday, Jan. 12.
Experience the wine trail covered in snow while supping savory soups and hearty chilis with delicious pinot noirs, rieslings, chardonnays and more.
Tickets to the noon to 5 p.m. event are $20 and include a souvenior wine glass and soup and wine pairings at 20 wineries.
New sewer operator for Leland Twp.
A new company is operating the Leland Township sewer.
Infrastructure Alternative, Inc. (IAI) took over Tuesday and will operate, maintain and repair the Leland Township wastewater treatment facility, lift stations, and individual home septic pumping (STEP) systems.
Omena gone to ‘the dogs’
It’s only fitting, with a cat for Mayor and two canine vice mayors, and a press secretary goat, that Omena should welcome its new furry residents. There were five, at least, who came to live in Omena in 2018. They could be considered the Omena Mayor Class of 18. In fact, one precocious member of the class is already Omena’s Second Vice Mayor.
