Bay Reps sport three county athletes

The Bay Reps have some Leelanau County representation on the team.

Judd Lawson, Cam Newman and Andrew Bankey each play for the Bay Reps, and reside in Leelanau County. All three of the athletes are sophomores at Traverse City St. Francis high school.

St. Mary holds off Muskegon Catholic Central, 46-37

St. Mary (4-1) continues to soar.

The Eagles traveled to Muskegon Catholic Central (1-5, Lakes 8 Activities) Friday, and used a strong first half to hold off the Crusaders, 46-37.

“We were playing short handed, as Alexandra Kirt was out sick,” St. Mary coach Clint Couturier said. “The Muskegon game was a showcase, with winners awarded trophies.”

Schaub, Glen Lake runs past Traverse City St. Francis

Points were at a premium in the first half in Traverse City.

Glen Lake (5-1, 3-0 Northwest Conference) and Traverse City St. Francis (1-2, 0-1 Lake Michigan Conference) both struggled to find the basket, but the Lakers slowed down and found it, defeating the Glads, 42-17.

Turnovers were a big problem for St. Mary (2-4).

The Eagles turned the ball over 27 times, leading to easy baskets for Muskegon Catholic Central (4-2, 1-1 Lakes 8 Activities). The Crusaders knocked off the Eagles, 74-31.

Suttons Bay (2-5, 1-2 NWC) continues to struggle without Zach Stowe in the middle.

Gavyn Shananaquet led the way for the Norsemen, but Buckley (2-4, 1-2 NWC) proved to be too much for Suttons Bay. The Bears defeated the Norse, 67-50 at Buckley.

Glen Arbor Township is looking at new ways of disseminating information to the public.

At its Dec. 18 meeting, the Glen Arbor Township Board discussed the idea of starting a Facebook page for the township. Supervisor Peter VanNort said he received a suggestion for the idea.

Recreational-marijuana establishments will soon be disallowed in Solon Township.

At its Dec. 13 meeting the Solon Township Board approved the “prohibition of recreational marijuana establishments” ordinance, which will take effect Jan. 12.

Over 60 children of all ages crowded the Omena Fire Hall to see Santa when he arrived on Christmas Eve. He came down Tatch Road on the township fire truck, driven by Eric Hallett. Kori Wheeler led the caroling, and everyone had a great time.

Dispatchers praised for holiday work duty

County dispatchers and deputies were on duty keeping the public safe over the Christmas holiday.

At 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a barking dog complaint in Leelanau Township and found a 74-yearold woman deceased.

Neighbors reported that a dog had been barking overnight and into the morning, alerting others there was something wrong with his owner.
