Board appoints new treasurer

Glen Arbor Township has appointed a new treasurer.

The township board voted unanimously Tuesday night to tap Lee Houtteman to replace soon retiring Terry Gretzema as treasurer.

The board previously interviewed all three candidates who applied for the position.

The Glen Arbor players did it again. The play “The Bells of St. Mary’s” was very well done and enjoyable.

Arrest made after crash

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a driver after a single vehicle accident this week in Kasson Township.

Shortly after 6 Tuesday morning, deputies responded to the intersection of West Burdickville Road and South Coleman Road, reference a 2006 silver Subaru off the north side of the intersection into the trees.

The late antlerless firearm deer season is underway, and Mike Stoffel of Northport expects to have trouble filling his tag.

That’s not bad news at all. Since early bow season all he’s seen are bucks from his blind on private land in Leelanau Township.

His son, Shane, downed an 8-point that might make the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan list.

Leelanau Township is taking steps to reduce the number of invasive plant species in the area.

The Leelanau Township Board last week approved an amendment mandating commercial buildings in the township use plant species native to the region, as recommended by the Planning Commission.

Last Saturday, freezing rain, missed our turn back to Maple City and home, lost our way in the darkness.

Ended up going round and round. We stopped to ask directions.

Some sweet soul came out in the rain and showed us the way!
