Holiday concert in Npt. Sunday
Nancy Flanagan of Cedar will be front and center Sunday for the annual Christmas Concert at the Northport Community Art Center.

‘Clear path’ for safety, health
Northern Building Supply and the cycling group Norte are offering a new community program aimed at promoting good health as well as safety this winter.
The program, called “Clear Path to Health” will provide shovels free of charge to people willing to shovel community sidewalks and intersections, to keep them clear and safe for their neighbors.
Madrigal concert this weekend
The Leelanau Children’s Choir and Youth Ensemble will perform their 26th annual Madrigal Concert Friday and Saturday at the Leland Community Methodist Church.
All are welcome to attend the concerts performed by children age 8 to 18 from all over the county.
This year, Megan Popp, a former member of the group, has returned and will be shadowing director Margaret Bell.
Elmwood grapples with zoning

New name for county department emphasizing construction safety
For nearly all of this decade, it’s been called the “Leelanau County Construction Codes Authority,” which people still often refer to simply as the “Inspections Department.”
As of last month, however, it has a new name: the “Department of Building Safety.”
Upgrades to improve EMS communication
Leelanau County Sheriff deputies on the road and in the jail will have an easier time communicating with each other, the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, the county Prosecuting Attorney’s office and other agencies through a new $341,000 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
Man charged with sex crime
A 35-year-old man in the Grand Traverse County Jail has been charged in connection with an incident that took place more than a decade ago.
Timothy D. Dunn was arraigned via video Nov. 27 on one count of firstdegree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly assaulting a girl in 2001 in Leelanau County.
Drunk driving charges levied
A 64-year-old Cedar man was arrest Friday after an incident in Cleveland Township.
About 7:20 that evening, deputies responded to a residence on East Sullivan Woods Road in reference to a disorderly person.
Upon arrival, the deputies interviewed several people in regards to a landlord/tenant dispute.
Man charged in hit and run
A 40-year-old Traverse City man was arraigned Monday on a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Michael Harley Moore turned himself in at the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office about 5 p.m. last Thursday about 24 hours after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his car in the unincorporated village of Cedar.
