Winter weather has arrived

It’s back.

Over the weekend, county residents saw the first significant snow of the season — the first since mid-April storm that dumped 20 inches over a three-day period.

From Friday through Sunday, 10 inches was recorded in Maple City, bringing the season total through Tuesday to 11.3 inches.

Suttons Bay had two Board of Education seats for which there were no candidates. These positions were filled by write-in candidates.

Raises recommended for two elected co. officials

Pay raises could be in store for the Leelanau County Clerk and the Leelanau County Prosecuting Attorney.

At its executive meeting this week, the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners considered a recommendation from County Administrator Chet Janik that rates of pay for the two positions be increased in 2019.

Registration open for 4-H ski/board program

Registration is underway for the Leelanau County 4-H Ski and Snowboard Program at The Homestead near Glen Arbor.

For six Sundays, Jan. 7 through Feb. 24, students in grades 1 through 12 can participate in a 60-minute group lesson each week with a certified instructor.

Lesson attendance is required.

Lakers finish season even overall

Football season has ended for Glen Lake.

With the loss to Beaverton, the Lakers (5-5, 4-0 NMFL-Leaders) season has ended in the District semifinal game. Glen Lake has qualified and competed in the playoffs six out of the last seven years.

With the loss to Pickford last week in the regional final, Suttons Bay has their season come to an end. The Norsemen finish the season with a final record of 9-2 (4-1 Midwest).
