    A facilities master plan, which includes a performing arts center and an outdoor locker room for girls, is in the hands of the Glen Lake Board of Education.

    Mike Howard of GMB Architects appeared before the school board last month with the findings of a study to identify the immediate and longterm facility needs for the K-12 complex.

    Not much going on this time of year, boats and docks coming out of the water and some of the summer homes and cottages are already being winterized.

    It appeared that the Endurance Evolution Sleeping Bear Marathon last week was a success because there was a whole lot of people running and participating.

    Congratulations to all of the organizers and artists who were part of last weekend’s M22 Art2Art Tour around the county. The event was sponsored by the Suttons Bay Art Festival nonprofit. Donna Popke and Bill Perkins were the co-directors. Northport’s Village Arts Building was one of the four venues, featuring furniture and sculpture.

    Ron Baker trapped another one.

    Baker trapped his eighth beaver of the year, hiding in a homeowner's window well in Suttons Bay.

    “The owner tried to draw the beaver out by putting sticks and boards up," Baker said. “Beavers don’t climb very well, so he called the county and they recommended me to come over and get the beaver out.”

    Migrating birds are on the move, traveling through Leelanau County.

    The birds are migrating down south to find food easier, and hunters such as Chris Butz of Cedar are seeing a ton of birds. Butz is a long time hunter and fisher, and owns his own area for game hunting.

    A new contractor has been hired to oversee the Leland Township sewer system.

    The Township Board on Monday selected a firm named Infrastructure Alternatives, Inc., (IA) to operate the sewer system. Present operator CH2MOMI is not seeking to renew its contract with the township that ends on Dec. 31. Also submitting a proposal was the civil engineering firm, Wade-Trim.

    Suttons Bay continues to impress.

    A year removed 58-26 loss to Central Lake in regionals, Suttons Bay (6-1, 3-1 Midwest) returned the favor Friday against Central Lake (2-4, 1-3 Midwest) with a 55-6 victory.

    Suttons Bay has earned a playoff spot, and will finish off the season with tough matchups against teams like Onekama.
